Mavs’ Smith out vs. Raptors

Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. missed Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors with a right ankle injury.Smith was ruled out just under an hour before the game tipped off. Rookie Jalen Brunson got the start in his place.Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle had said in his pregame availability that he expected Smith to play.The Mavs are also without point guard Devin Harris, leaving J.J. Barea and Brunson as the only available true point guards for the game.Smith, 20, is averaging 13.8 points and 5.0 assists across Dallas’ first four games. He sustained the injury in the final minutes of the team’s 111-104 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.The Mavericks (2-2) play again Sunday against the Utah Jazz.
