More than 10 percent of the crew working on renovating the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans have tested positive for coronavirus, the building’s management company announced Tuesday.According to the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District, 32 of more than 275 daily workers tested positive.”This post-Memorial Day increase is consistent with what 21 other states, not including Louisiana, are experiencing at this stage of the pandemic as more restrictions have been lifted for travel, shopping, and work,” the statement read.The building, home of the New Orleans Saints, is scheduled to host Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024, and renovations are expected to continue each offseason until then. According to NBC affiliate WDSU in New Orleans, the main contractor for the project, Broadmoor LLC, sent the workers who tested positive home to self-isolate.Broadmoor will also require those workers to provide proof of a negative test before returning to work. Those workers who remain on site will continue to receive personal protective equipment, according to WDSU.
