The San Francisco 49ers placed tight end Garrett Celek on injured reserve Thursday due to a back ailment, and starting nose tackle D.J. Jones will also land on IR this week due to an ankle injury, coach Kyle Shanahan said.The Celek move is official, with the team promoting tight end Daniel Helm from the practice squad to take his place on the roster. A corresponding move for Jones has not been announced, but Kentavius Street is eligible to be activated from injured reserve after being designated to return last week.Celek has battled a back injury all season, landing on the physically unable to perform list before the year and then debuting in Week 10. He played in five games (one start), logging 60 snaps without catching a pass. The 31-year-old had 12 touchdowns from 2015-18.Jones, 24, has started 11 games this season in the middle of the 49ers’ vaunted defensive line. He has two sacks, 23 tackles and a forced fumble after posting 27 tackles and no sacks through 19 games (four starts) across his first two seasons.Jones was a sixth-round pick out of Mississippi in 2017.The 49ers placed center Weston Richburg and wideout Marquise Goodwin on injured reserve earlier this week, joining a long list of players that includes linebacker Kwon Alexander, running back Jerick McKinnon and receivers Trent Taylor and Jalen Hurd.Defensive end Dee Ford and cornerback Richard Sherman are also expected to miss time with hamstring injuries.
