Four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman declared himself “100 percent” on Wednesday and was cleared to begin practice with his new team, the San Francisco 49ers.The 30-year-old, who required season-ending surgery on a ruptured Achilles in November, received a $2 million bonus for passing his pre-training camp physical.Sherman, who played his first seven seasons — including winning Super Bowl XLVIII — with the Seattle Seahawks, signed a three-year, incentive-laden deal with the 49ers in March. According to Pro Football Talk, the base value of the contract is $21.15 million, but Sherman could earn another $18 million if he achieves all incentives. He is expected to take part in the 49ers’ first practice on Thursday, but the team plans to ease him in slowly, giving him a day off after every two practices at the start of camp. The Stanford product, who has tallied 32 interceptions in 105 NFL career games, says his 2017 injury has rejuvenated his frame of mind.”I felt like it was one of those things where it needed to happen,” Sherman told the San Francisco Chronicle. “It allowed me at this point of my career to kind of take another step and find another level. …”I’m not saying people get complacent, but you get bored. It’s a routine. It’s go out there, you play 16 games, you play at a high level. … You enjoy it, but sometimes throwing a wrench in the plans kind of helps you. It wakens you up. It reignites a fire. It takes you back to where you need to be. I think that’s what I needed.
