The San Francisco 49ers’ long injury list added one more player on Thursday.Wide receiver Pierre Garcon is done for the season after being placed on injured reserve with a non-displaced fracture in his neck. The 31-year-old veteran was leading the 49ers in receiving during his first year with the franchise. He had caught 40 passes for 500 yards through eight games.Garcon was injured during last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles when he was shoved out of bounds after a catch. He originally didn’t believe the injury was serious, but he had not practiced this week. With Garcon out, the 49ers remaining wide receivers are Marquise Goodwin, Trent Taylor, Aldrick Robinson and Kendrick Bourne. The 49ers’ injury list also includes free safety Jimmie Ward (broken arm), tackle Garry Gilliam (knee), left tackle Joe Staley (eye) and defensive end Solomon Thomas (knee). Ward and Gilliam are out for the season. The bad news comes days after the 49ers received some positive news with the team acquiring quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots.”For every step going forward, we seem to be taking another one as we’re going back,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said of Garcon’s injury in a KNBR radio interview. “That was a crushing blow, and we’re figuring out what we’re going to do on that.”Garcon signed a five-year, $47 million contract in March after becoming a free agent. He spent the first four years of his career with the Indianapolis Colts and the next four with the Washington Redskins before signing a five-year, $47 million contract with San Francisco. He has 604 career receptions for 7,568 yards and 37 touchdowns.
