Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout will be limited to designated hitter duty for at least a few days after spraining his right index finger, the team announced Thursday.Left-hander Tyler Skaggs also is ailing with right hamstring tightness and was scratched from Thursday’s start against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to the team.Trout is able to swing the bat and is in Thursday’s lineup after being examined by team trainers. The contest will be his 1,000th as a major leaguer.”He is cleared to DH and he will be evaluated in a few days to assess readiness to return to (center field),” Angels general manager Billy Eppler said in a statement.Trout leads the majors with 23 homers and is batting .335 with 48 RBIs.It isn’t yet clear if Skaggs will be able to make his next start or if he will be placed on the 10-day disabled list. The southpaw will be evaluated Friday, according to Eppler.Left-hander John Lamb is replacing Skaggs as the Angels’ starter Thursday. He will be making his second start this season and is 2-12 with a 6.06 ERA in 25 career starts.Los Angeles also recalled outfielder Michael Hermosillo from Triple-A Salt Lake. He batted .143 in 21 at-bats with the Angels earlier this season.
